Common Water Heater Issues

There are easy ways to know if your water heater is in need of repairs or service.  These include:

  • Tank is Leaking

The most obvious sign is that your tank is leaking water. While there could be multiple reasons for your water heater to leak, all of them can potentially cause serious water damage to your home.

  • Rusty Smelling Water

Water quality is important to the health of your family. If your water is beginning to look rusty, it is a sign that a part of your water heater needs to be repaired. Unfortunately, there is also the possibility that you have bacteria growing in your water heater and needs to be flushed.

  • No Hot Water

If you have no hot water, then you obviously have an issue with your water heater. This is the time to call a professional so that we can determine the issue and get your water heater back up and running.

  • Odd Noises

If your water heater is beginning to bang or clank it is time to have it checked. These type of noises are a sign that you have a part that needs to be replaced or that you have a buildup of sediment in your water heater.

How Long will a Water Heater Last

The normal lifespan of a Water Heater depends on the type you have in your home.  You can expect a water heater to have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.  As a rule of thumb, electric water heaters will last 2 years longer than a gas water heater.

Gas heated models do have the benefit of being more economical and environmentally friendly.  The downside of gas models is that there are more components and more possibility of breakdowns.
