Signs You May Have a Refrigerant Leak

You need the right amount of refrigerant in your air conditioner to properly cool your home or property. If there’s a leak, it can deplete your supply and can cause your system to overwork to try to cool your house. Because of this, it’s important to schedule repair services at your home when you notice the following symptoms of a leak:

  • Loss of cooling power - Your system must work harder to cool your property as the refrigerant levels drop. If you notice a gradual change in the temperature in your home, it can signal a leak.
  • Formation of ice or frost - If you notice ice or frost around the evaporator coil it can be a symptom of a leak. As refrigerant leaks out of your system and the charge drops too low, it can prevent the evaporator coil from absorbing heat to warm the cold refrigerant, leading to frost and ice.
  • Hissing sounds - If you hear a hissing sound coming from your unit, it can signal a leak. Even a small, pin-needle sized leak can cause a hissing sound.

My kitchen was in crisis-backed up carburetor, clogged sink etc.I was so happy that Colin was able to put me into his schedule so quickly. High Mark Plumbing’s service was impeccable and prompt. We engaged them for a sewer backup issue and they were came immediately and determined the cause and explained in detail what needed to be done and how long it would take. Ryan was very professional and he did an excellent job in fixing the issue. Everything was cleaned up to our satisfaction. When done you could barely tell that there was an issue that was fixed. I was very surprised to get same day service for a slow ceiling leak. Davy was able to get to the root of the problem quickly and replace the leaking pipe valve that was causing the problem as well as give us some good overall advice. Davy was knowledgeable, courteous and informative. Also when the job was done there was no mess to deal with. I recommend Highmark and would definitely use them again.

Ryan was terrific! He was prompt, knowledgeable and very conscientious. There were some problems getting parts, not Highmark’s fault in any way, but Ryan stayed on top of it, problem solved and as soon as possible was back to install the new part. The steam shower unit is working perfectly and all along Ryan was trying to find the most cost effective options to address the problem. I couldn’t be more satisfied with the service I received from both Ryan and Highmark. I couldn’t recommend them more strongly. Thank you!Post Script to my previous review. I had another project at my home, this one involving both electrical and plumbing work. Again, High Mark exceeded my expectations. They arranged for both Ryan and Sean (the Electrician) to be at my place on the same day, which meant they both knew exactly what needed to be done and who needed to do what. They worked separately but very collaboratively and I got the job done as promised. Same customer but another terrific experience all around — the folks answering the phone and scheduling appointment are equally helpful and professional. Thanks again!

I required a scope of the perimeter drainage prior to fence construction and Ryan indicated a number of problem areas. My outdoor hose was leaking into our walls and Ryan came to fix it up. He came on time, told me the problem and was able to do the fix right away. Installation was completed very quickly. Andrew, Chris and Brian were excellent, very professional and thorough in their work.This new “condensorless” ductless AC unit is a great install. No big heat exchanger outside, just two 8″ dia holes from the interior unit to draw in and exhaust outside air. Gave very good heat this last week. Can’t wait to use it during the heat of summer.Brian in particular was very thorough and detailed in installing this new kind of ductless ac unit, and the area was spotlessly cleaned afterwards. Turns out he’s one of the owners of the company. When an owner is hands-on and does such fine work, you just know this is a great company to deal with. Highly recommended!

We engaged them for a sewer backup issue and they were came immediately and determined the cause and explained in detail what needed to be done and how long it would take. I was very surprised to get same day service for a slow ceiling leak. Davy was able to get to the root of the problem quickly and replace the leaking pipe valve that was causing the problem as well as give us some good overall advice. Ryan was terrific! He was prompt, knowledgeable and very conscientious. There were some problems getting parts, not Highmark’s fault in any way, but Ryan stayed on top of it, problem solved and as soon as possible was back to install the new part. The steam shower unit is working perfectly and all along Ryan was trying to find the most cost effective options to address the problem. Installation was completed very quickly. Andrew, Chris and Brian were excellent, very professional and thorough in their work.This new “condensorless” ductless AC unit is a great install. No big heat exchanger outside, just two 8″ dia holes from the interior unit to draw in and exhaust outside air. Gave very good heat this last week. Can’t wait to use it during the heat of summer.Brian in particular was very thorough and detailed in installing this new kind of ductless ac unit, and the area was spotlessly cleaned afterwards. Turns out he’s one of the owners of the company. When an owner is hands-on and does such fine work, you just know this is a great company to deal with. Highly recommended!
